Peopled with civil rights activists, fanatical Christians, corrupt politicians, and demented Hollywood stars, A Hall of Mirrors vividly depicts the dark side of America that erupted in the sixties. To quote Wallace Stegner, “Stone writes like a bird, like an angel, like a circus barker, like a con man, like someone so high on pot that he is scraping his shoes on the stars”.

Many rate the book as a potent look at social unease in the 60s era, ranking with the likes of Lowry, Styron and West.

The signature of Robert Stone is uncommon, especially in the United Kingdom. This British edition is reputedly had a print of about 1000 copies with many going to libraries.

Condition: Endpapers and intervals clean, with usual discolouration to top-edge of book block for a book of this period. No marks or inscriptions. Jacket is in reasonable condition, minimal creasing and wear at folds and one small closed tear at the top the spine. Some fading to colour of spine. Not price-clipped. Misprint on rear jacket panel – above quote reads “he is scraping his shoes on the stairs”!! Good to Very Good copy.
